  7. 1. Unzip SVI395.ZIP to a floppy or directory on your hard disk.
  8. 2. Run SVI395.EXE
  9. 3. Read the help file 'Introduction' and 'Getting Started" sections.

  32. (Aug 95)
  33.     Un-Install - Users can now un-install the application. Removes 
  34.         files, directories and program group.
  35.  
  36.     Version check and display on overwrite prompt. User is shown 
  37.         version information for old and new files in case of 
  38.         an overwrite.
  39.  
  40.     Registry - You can add or modify any HKEY values by creating a text
  41.         file with the key values. Some keys require administrator
  42.         privileges to modify. This version assumes the user has
  43.         the correct rights. This version only supports String keys.

  45.     Long File and Directory names - This version is limited to 255 
  46.         characters for full file spec including directory info.

  52.     New Bitmap Display mode - You can now specify to display black
  53.         areas of you bitmap as transparent. This means you can
  54.         make a bitmap with large yellow lettering on a black 
  55.         background and it will appear as yellow  lettering on 
  56.         the blue gradient. (note: only compatible with non-stretch
  57.         bitmap placement modes)
  58.         
  59.     INI File support - You can now modify INI files during your     
  60.         installation.
  61.         - Add to any .INI file.
  62.         - Modify any .INI file.
  63.         - Tokenized ini processing to insert the user selected 
  64.           install drive and directory if required.

  66.     System Files - You can now modify AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS
  67.         - Check for minimum FILES and BUFFERS, modify if required.
  68.         - Append to AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS
  69.         - Tokenized append processing to insert the user selected 
  70.           install drive and directory.
  71.         - User can choose to apply changes or not.

  73.     Automatic file placement - These files are auto-magically placed
  74.         on the first distribution, disk when used.
  75.         TileBitMap, Afterfile, Autoexec-append and Config-append

  77.     Afterfile - now runs from the user chosen drive and directory. 
  78.         ie: if you specify your default to be C:\Myapp but the 
  79.         user installs to D:\Myapp2, SVI will install your 
  80.         afterfile to D:\Myapp2 and run it from there.

  82.     Readme - Readme file has been separated from the afterfile. You can 
  83.         now specify a readme file and which program to run it, 
  84.         Notepad or Write.

  86.     Restart/Reboot - You can now set SVI to restart windows or reboot the
  87.         user's PC at the end of the installation.

  89.     Disk Size - You can now specify the target disk as CD/Net and PRO_BLD
  90.         will build full distribution into DISK1.

  92.     Disk Numbers - PRO_BLD now writes disk number information which SVI312
  93.         checks at disk change time to ensure user has put in correct
  94.         disk. Loops until either the correct disk is put in or the user
  95.         selects CANCEL.

  97.     Improved error handling - you now have 'OK-CANCEL' choices on most errors
  98.         so you can skip on to next file or cancel installation.

  100.     Feedback on build, tells which file is being processed, "3 of 29" etc.

  105.     - PRO_BLD, Improved processing for 'Remove Project'. PRO_BLD was
  106.           getting confused as to when the last project had been 
  107.         removed. And setting wrong version number when creating new 
  108.         projects.

  110.     - SVI311 if set to gradient fill would colorover any 'Always on Top'
  111.         applications like Microsoft Office.

  113.     - Check file size, 'TOO LARGE' message if bigger than configured
  114.           disk size. ie: trying to put a 2MB file on a 1.44MB diskette.

  124.     Bitmap Position - Two new position added, Place_Low and Stretch_Hori-
  125.         zontal_Low. These are the same as Place and Stretch_Horizontal
  126.         except they place the bitmap at the bottom of the screen.

  128.     Gradient Fill and Tile Fill - For screen color you can now choose either a solid
  129.         color of a standard blue gradient fill or tiled bitmap.

  131.     Pre/Post installtion messages - You can now specify a breift (255 character)
  132.         message to appear before installation, and a different message to
  133.         appear after. Of course, you do not have to use either if you don't
  134.         want to.

  137.     Options Screen - Got too big, split into 4 'Tabbed' panels.
  138.     New Project - Now carries SVI3 and compress configure information forward.
  139.     Compact Database - New menu choice under File to compact SVI.MDB.

  142.     Multi-Add Subdirectory - When you select multiple files to ADD to a project,
  143.         you are now asked if you wish to set the SUB DIRECTORY for all files.

  154.     Screen color - You can now set the screen color to whatever you like. This
  155.         is done with the new Pro-Build utility. (see below)

  157.     Source Sub Directories - You no longer need to build a subdirectory tree
  158.         on your distribution disk to install files to sub-directories. In 
  159.         fact you no longer need to build your distribution disk, see Pro-
  160.         Build below.

  162.     Readme support - The Afterfile can now be used to run Notepad and bring
  163.         up your readme.txt file. (see Help for how to do this)
  164.  
  165.     CD / Network support - When you specify an icon is to be placed in the
  166.         program group you can also specify if the properties are to
  167.         point back to the source. ie: Installing a CD you want the icon
  168.         properties to point to a file on the distribution media - the CD.

  171.     Project Based Smart(er) Build Utility - This is the main enhancement of
  172.         version 3.1. See on-line Help for full details.

  181. 3.06    Fixes - SVI3 would go ahead and try to install to a drive that did not
  182. (Nov94)        have enough space.
  183.           - SVI3 would get real confused if you put TWO file names into
  184.         the afterfile (like "NOTEPAD.EXE README.TXT"). SVI 3.06 still
  185.         does not fully support using the afterfile to run NOTEPAD.EXE.
  186.         This is because SVI3 passes commandline parameters to the 
  187.         afterfile telling it where the user chose to install the 
  188.         application. To get the above to work you must make a manual 
  189.         change to SVINSTAL.SVI after it is built. Edit it with Windows
  190.         notepad, and add AT THE END:
  191.         [AfterFile]
  192.         AfterFileParameterFlag=N
  193.         Version 3.1 (available early in 95) will handle this for you.

  195. 3.05    Fixes - The source drive listbox was not set to display verticle scroll 
  196. (Nov94)        bars. This meant you could only choose from the first three drives.
  197.           - The 'Installation Complete' box did not come up on multi-disk
  198.         installations.        
  199.           - The %F token was not being parsed correctly.

  201. 3.04    Fixes - SVI3 fails when trying to install > 24 icons in a program group.
  202. (Oct94)        Caused by single long DDE command. Now modified to add icons in 
  203.         groups of 10. 
  204.         NOTE: The maximum number of icons that Windows will support in 
  205.         a program group is 50.

  207. 3.03    Fixes - SVI3 would fail after decompressing 16 files.
  208. (Aug94)          -    SVI3 would cause a protection fault in PROGMAN if more than 13
  209.         icons were being added into a program group.

  211. 3.02    Fixes -    SVI3, if you selected no bitmap, the calculation of number of
  212. (Aug94)        file to install would be incorrect.

  214. 3.01    Fixes - RunComp "Internal Error" if run more than once.
  215. (Aug94)          - Files redirected to Windows with icon displayed had icon
  216.         properties incorrectly set.
  217.           - Compress.exe, the orginally supplied compress.exe produced 
  218.         files that would decompress fine with the lzexpand.dll that
  219.         comes with Windows 3.11 but would not expand if using Windows
  220.         3.1's lzexpand.dll. Files compressed with the supplied 
  221.         compress.exe now work with both 3.1 and 3.11.
